As hard as it is to believe, I’ve officially been in Florida for a year! I moved into my apartment one year ago today. It’s been such a fast year – but it’s also been an incredible year! I’ve seen a lot of places in Florida and I’ve also had the opportunity to visit a number of places outside of the United States.
As I reflect back on this past year, there are some things I hope to make happen in the next year. Things I want to do, places I want to visit, sights I want to see… So for the next year, here’s my Florida Bucket List! When I finish this list, I’ll make a new list with more things I want to see and places to explore. One thing I’ve learned about Florida is just how stunningly beautiful the state is! I absolutely love the west coast of the state!
In no particular order…
- Ride an Air Boat in the Everglades
Included with this is also to visit the Everglades, since I haven’t been there yet either. But taking an air boat tour seems to be a popular way to explore the area – and it looks like a lot of fun! - Take a Day Trip to Dry Tortugas
This is tied in with number 10 on my list, as you have to visit Dry Tortugas from Key West (it’s approximately 70 miles from Key West). Dry Tortugas is only accessible by boat or seaplane and is home to Fort Jefferson. - Swim with Manatees
While this can happen many places in the state, Crystal River is where I’m eyeing to complete this activity! - Go Glamping
There are glamping sites across the state, including one in Sarasota – not too far from me – and one in Tampa. These two sites are the same company and they look awesome! - Find a Shark Tooth
This is the one thing that I can’t guarantee I can make happen – but with the amount of beaches around me known for finding shark’s teeth, I’m hoping I can find one! - Visit Vizcaya Museum and Gardens
This is the most recent place I’ve found. Located in Miami, this museum and gardens is a 1916 waterfront estate home that looks stunning! - Explore Rosemary Beach
This has been on my list for a long time – even before I moved to Florida. Rosemary Beach looks like the most quaint and lovely beach town I’ve ever seen! - Visit Blowing Rocks Preserve
This beach has limestone formations that create what look like cliffs along the water. It’s totally unique and very cool looking! - Sail to Cabbage Key Island
Cabbage Key Island is only accessible by water – and while I don’t know much about it, the secluded island intrigues me! There is a water taxi that you can take from Captiva Island. - Visit Key West
This trip can be taken one of two ways – driving down the Overseas Highway or taking the ferry. I’d ideally like to do both eventually!
I hope to see a lot more of Florida this year, but these ten things are what I’m hoping to prioritize! The map below shows where I’ve been in Florida as of today. These are the places I’ve visited since I moved here a year ago, and I’ve only included places I’ve stopped and done at least one thing (no driving through locations included). I’ll keep this map updated as I see more of the state!
