Today was spent visiting Dun Laoghaire (pronounced Dun Leery). Most people will just Dublin from this port, which is pretty close. Instead of going to Dublin, I explored more of the town of Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey (which was a very short train ride away).

In Dalkey, I visited Dalkey Castle, which is a 14th century castle. They put on an interactive experience at the castle which was an interesting way to learn more about the castle and the area.

(Part 2: Cobh, Ireland)

Today, the ship docked in Cobh (pronounced Cove), Ireland. First on the agenda was to take the train into Cork. The train station is right at the port, which is very convenient for cruisers. The ride is about 25 minutes long and is less than €10 roundtrip. It’s a cheap and easy option to get to the city.

I didn’t have any plans for Cork other than to take the hop on, hop off bus tour, run by Cork City Tours. Some people see these as very touristy, but I’m a tourist and these are a great way to see the sights, especially in a large city when you have limited time to see everything. On the tour, you will see all the historic and important sights in the city.

Following the tour, I took the train back to Cobh to explore this town. I’d been to Cork before but not Cobh. Cobh, Ireland is the last port of call for the Titanic and there’s a lot to see in town that has connections to the ship.

Of the two cities, I definitely enjoyed exploring Cobh more. It’s a cute, waterside town with a lot of history behind it. If you ever get the chance to go, I’d highly recommend it!
